Client Query - Process for Rental Products

Problem/Question

We operate a rental service for costumes - clothes go out for a period of time and are then returned back to us. When clothes come back to us they have to be inspected and laundered.

Solution

This is a complex process and requires the use of 'sites' and raising a customer return for the stock item.
  1. Create a Non-stock controlled, Non-physical, COS Excluded item (with a purchase nominal set against it) for Laundry services - this will enable you to keep track of the laundering costs.
  2. Create a Site called Laundry.
  3. When you process the customer return, it should be in the Laundry site which can be chosen via the Site drop down menu of the return.
  4. When items are received back from laundry, you will need to perform a site transfer in [Stock Tools| Stock Adjustments] from the laundry site to the site where it is sold from. This will prevent your stock from levels increasing each time you launder it and will keep a more accurate stock value.
  5.  Any orders in 'Awaiting stock' that are waiting for the items you have transferred will not have the stock automatically allocated. To do this you will need to go to [Despatch | Back Order Manager] and select the order(s) that are waiting for stock, click Actions, then Allocate Stock. Populate the dialog box accordingly.
  6. To account for the laundering cost(s) raise a purchase order for the item from Step 1. This will still need to be booked in via delivery note.
